Board of Governance
We are recruiting new board members to enhance our governance and support our Regional Director and staff team. As a Board member, you will play a pivotal role in steering WGNRR Africa towards achieving its mission, providing strategic oversight, and ensuring organizational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mission Alignment: Understand, promote, and uphold WGNRR Africa’s vision, mission, goals, and values. Familiarize yourself with our Constitution, policies, and procedures to ensure that all activities and decisions align with our organizational principles.
- Governance and Oversight: Attend and actively participate in Board meetings (quarterly and as needed) and Board retreats. Serve on Board committees and contribute to strategic planning, budget approval, and monitoring organizational performance.
- Advocacy and Representation: Act as an advocate for WGNRR Africa, representing the organization with pride and knowledge. Promote our accomplishments and opportunities in various forums and contribute to public awareness and fundraising efforts.
- Commitment and Engagement: Attend and support the organization’s events, including fundraising activities, special events, and project visits. Dedicate professional and personal skills to advance our goals and contribute to fund or social enterprise development activities.
- Leadership and Diversity: Help fill Board leadership positions and work to enhance the diversity of Board membership. Assist in recruiting new members with varied skills, backgrounds, and experiences to ensure a well-rounded and effective governance body.
- Communication and Support: Maintain regular communication with the Regional Director and respond promptly to requests for input or support. Ensure a collaborative approach to addressing organizational challenges and opportunities.
Key Qualifications:
- Feminist Movement Experience: Demonstrated commitment and experience in feminist movements, with a comprehensive understanding of sexual and reproductive health, and reproductive justice.
- Leadership Skills: Proven experience in feminist movement building, including leadership skills in management, governance, and conflict resolution.
- Operational Expertise: Experience in fundraising, financial and organizational management, human resources, campaigning, advocacy, and related areas essential to WGNRR’s operations and programs.
- Networking Skills: A track record of effective networking at local, regional, or international levels.
- Advocacy and Communication: Sound experience in advocacy, media communications, and development and social policies.
- Governance Experience: Experience in ensuring and practicing good governance at the organizational level.
- Flexibility: Willingness to attend online meetings during out-of-office hours; experience with remote management is advantageous.
- Commitment: Open to WGNRR members, supporters, and allies who are committed to the organization’s goals and objectives.
Board Composition:
- Size: 5 to 15 members
- Gender Balance: At least 80% women
- Chair: A woman
Terms:
- Service: Up to two consecutive 3-year terms
- Compensation: This position is voluntary and unpaid with modest allowances for meetings
