Our Approach

How do we achieve it

We break the silo approach and work together with locally led initiatives and organizations that create and implement strategies that align with our strategic plan to transform structures, systems and power that reinforce inequalities in accessing sexual and reproductive health and right and justice in different communities.

We make it by:
  • Connecting & Empowering grassroots SRHR advocates: We identify and connect organizations and individuals working in the SRHR field at local and national level; increase their understanding of specific SRHR issues from a human right and reproductive justice frameworks, strengthen their skills to mobilize communities and implement advocacy and behavioral change initiatives to transform structures, systems and power that reinforce inequalities in accessing sexual and reproductive health.
  • Mobilizing & supporting collective actions for SRHR: We strengthen right-based advocacy and communication skills of grassroots advocates; and support joint advocacy initiatives and well-coordinated campaigns at all levels (community, national and (sub) regional to address normative and policy barriers to the fulfillment of SRHR of marginalized communities, and provide technical and, in few cases, financial support to grassroots organizations to develop and implement joint and well-coordinated strategies to address social, cultural, economic and policy barriers to the fulfilment of SRHR of marginalized communities.
  • Building alliances with other actors in the social justice movement: We apply an intersectional lens to address the multiple forms of discrimination that people experience in fulfilling their SRHR. We unite local grassroots organizations, local government units, research institutions, international development agencies and many other types of organization as well as individuals from across the region to address the multiple forms of discrimination that people experience in fulfilling SRHR. Also we enhance partnerships and alliances between WGNRR Africa and national and regional networks, and where they do not exist we work to establish ones, in order to better coordinate activities and actions; and we deepen relationships with other social movements such as disability, environmental and HIV/AIDS to create common understanding of SRHR and its importance in sustainable development.
