On 25th February 2022, WGNRR Africa brought together 12 reproductive rights defenders, members and supporters of the Coalition to address maternal mortality due to unsafe abortion and its complications (CAMMAC) to brainstorm and reflect on the possibility of embarking on strategic litigation as a strategy to protect and advance women’s reproductive rights in Tanzania. This one-day meeting resulted in the following key outcomes:
- Increased participants’ understanding of strategic litigation as a legal means to tackle injustice that has not been adequately addressed in law or policies via taking carefully-selected cases to the court.
- Validation of strategic litigation as a strategy to add value to ongoing SRHR advocacy efforts
- Establishment of multi-stakeholders alliance to spark discussion and increase support for strategic litigation strategy.
